IMO graphics dont matter as long as it has good gameplay.
Games like the FF series are more like an interactive movie than a game. "The game for the lazy,"
But graphics aren't needed, like i still play harvest moon because of gameplay not graphics.
Which is more important?

Your like the only one who posts here o.O I like good graphics because it makes the game more visually appealing, but gameplay is best overall.

Yes, this is my favorite section. Smile
But think of mario, visually good (for the time) and great gameplay. Balance between both can make your game a success.

They messed about with the formula too much, like sonic. They should have stayed the same but added better sprites, animations and functions. (Like megaman.)

True, but I did like having tons of different scenery, it wasn't so boring after a while, but they should have added some things.

you know the best sellers were almost always the ones with best graphics
but the Favorite games where the ones with best gameplay.

the good thing is a balance.
and example is Final Fantasy 8 and 9 for PS one
they had the nice balance of almost best graphics that could be made for the PS one without being a Loading screen whore and had the best stories.

I'd typically prefer a high, stable (60 flat or higher) fps over graphics.

Then again, I find Crysis having environments that I can truly become immersed in. Everything was interactive, trees broke, oil drums leaked (and actually would not leak again until you shot lower) and leaves bent as I walked through them.

If you can set the mood and create a powerful atmosphere with your graphics, then you can also create good gameplay out of it.

I'd rather watch a movie with kick ass graphics than play a 16 bit game of any caliber.

Honestly, I'd expect nothing less than a visually orgasmic and epic gaming experience from something I'm paying $60 for these days.

But I'd prefer amazingly fun gameplay with at LEAST something that I can bear to look at without gouging my eyes out.

My breakdown:

Graphics - 20%
Plot - 15%
Gameplay -50%
Atmosphere/Immersion - 15%

Exactly why I don't have a handheld.

When I play a game, I NEED it to be able to run 60FPS+ and needs to be good graphics. The lowest graphics game I play now is Counter Strike Source.
