I will derive a list of game creation tools for those who wish to get into the field.

A decent program for beginners, you can easily create any kind of game, although it's a real hassle to use for more advanced games.

FPS Creator.

Recommendation: Beginner-Intermediate
A really great editor for a really great engine, this allows you to use the presets, or import your own models and textures.
You can create your own maps, guns, and stories.
Note: At the present, I can't seem to get this program to work at all.
It's simply full of bugs and glitches preventing me from doing diddly squat.
If you manage to get it working, let me know.

Any Unreal title: Free
Pretty much any Source engine title: Free
Crysis: Free
MOD AN EXISTING ENGINE FROM A POPULAR GAME. Why would one not want to take advantage of a well developed, fast and fully featured engine that has a gigantic userbase?
All of these titles expose all the gameplay code and pretty much everything in the toolset. Nothing is stopping you from creating an entirely new game, even of another genre.
Coding not your thing? Maybe level design, sound design, modeling, or million other aspects to creating something is up your alley. Better yet, who says you have to create a new game? Create new content for the original. Unreal has absolute shitloads of custom maps for all their games, plenty of which match the quality set by the actual developers or exceed it.
