Background isn't very realistic, along with the black circle.
Other than that nice 3D work. Wink

I hope it didn't take you too long to do tht on 3DsMax, but seriously. If effort is going to mean something in this contest i won't even be participating. Its the outcome that will count. Simplicity is superior.

its just a simple render, I made it in 2 minutes setting the scene before going to sleep yesterday and 3 minutes today finishing the lighting and background texture. n.n;;
but yeah , some advanced lighting is needed to do that cover emitter lighting effect.

Overall outcome will be the priority however effort does have to be considered when people may be using brush sets all the time.

Oh yas, you should point out on the SOTW that most of the custom brushes are copyrighted >.> usually the last brush of the set says the copyrights thing.
so they should ask for permission to use them, even the free brushes are mostly copyrighted.(( the meaning of that is that you can use them for yourself but you cant show them as yours ))

also >.> I dont really care if "effort" is taken into the rating of the SOTW but I think it should be only rated by the outcome.

I'm doing some advanced light tracing and distortion on it right now, also making the surface of the " moon " more organic

outcome:

still not satisfied with it so I'll be tweaking a little more before start to use photoshop.

The edges of the circle should be lightened, in order to make the eclipse effect a little more noticeable.

Black, as if the sun is trying to wrap around the moon .
