Okay this is not CE related ... so it's in general discussions after all.
I've been trying to learn packet editing now already for a few times but I never succeeded at all.
I tried to start easy but ..i dunno...it should work but it doesn't.
There is for example a program...or game...or whatever that is supposed to be I've been trying to do some packet editing on as it seemed easy...
Like this:
When i walk a step the data being sent is:
6,12,12,5,0
When i walk another step the data is:
6,12,13,5,0
When i walk that step back it's:
6,12,12,1,0
Well i pretty much know what all the numbers mean after some experiments however...
If i send the packet
6,12,13,5,0
my location won't change. I thought it might be that my client is not displaying it but even if i open another one i still have not moved one bit. No other relevant packets were sent by my client. Therefore...i completetly don't understand it.
I've tried searching google for tuts...but except outdates ones like http://www.gamehacking.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=2110 ,which links to a few nonexsistent tutorials...I've only found this http://www.hackthissite.org/readarticle.php?id=1343&PHPSESSID=3830375b3f207ad61827be8a424f213a tutorial...and having read it I still don't know what i am doing wrong.
I mean that test I'm doing ....the movement has to be client sided...if i send i move then it's as good as the client says i move..isn't it?

Okay...i've been trying until now...i came to the conclusion that it has to do with me being behind a masquerading linux PC. I quickly found that out by sending lots of crappy packets and the server did not disconnect me...although he should. (maybe it has something to do with my LAN IP being used in the packets instead of my external IP)
So i guess editing the packets on linux would be a solution and spend most time on searching for possiblities.
tcpdump is hardly any use...just like a few other tools i tried out...
Ethereal is nice and captures them but...i cannot send any!
So i spend more time finding one...and came across net dude...sounded nice but doesn't work...for an unknown reason.
Are there any recommanded tools for linux?
Or any way to correctly send packets from the windows computer?
edit: nevermind who cares. This isn't even a good place to ask so well nevermind it.
