| Editing the memory on your computer is not illegal, manually editing the packets your computer sends or receives is not illegal. Anyone who thinks either would violate any law is retarded.

Let me point it out very clear for everyone.
Terms of service are rules by which one must agree to abide by in order to use a service. Usually, such terms are legally binding. (From wikipedia)
Lets say you make a profile on myspace with fake information. This is a violation of their Terms of Service which states you must use true and accurate information. Within this violation, you are also in violation of "unauthorized access" to MySpace's services, which breaks federal law laid out in the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
Therefor, if packet editing directly or indirectly breaks a web service's legally binding Terms of Service, it is indeed breaking the law.
And it's not that you'd be sued, although you could be (you can sue anyone for anything) if the company was willing to (normally they don't because of bad rep and costly lawyers). It's that you'd be federally prosecuted if the company wanted to press charges (which they also normally don't because of bad reputation).

From information i found out...
Yes, to an extent
Reason why Packet editting and modiffying server data is illegal because your modiffying some bodies property. By tampering with this property, you are compromising a pc without permission. Doing it on your own machine is okay, but crossing the internet is not.
In order to packet edit, as from a source i found on the internet so i could be sure, you need to steal or modify data. Doing so is doing what was stated above. If caught, its not always like a big deal, but most of the time it is, you can be banned from what your doing, jailed, sued, Iped, Have your internet shut off (i believe).
Packet editting is fun 
Do it at your own risk.

Whenever an individual is targeted by a very large company, the media reports on it and most people think it is unfair that such a rich company would destroy an individual's life just, seemingly to make an example out of them.

You are wrong and I want to slam my head into the desk
Nobody gives a fuck that some kid sent some modified packets. Worst case scenario is a nice ban because you probably violated their TOS.
