Hiho,
tried to cheat "Sacred" using the very informative Threadhttp://www.syndiv.com/ce/forum/viewtopic.php?t=162&highlight=sacred
So I started Sacred and CE, enabled the arrows and searched for 256, as "2 bytes". Got 120.000 hits.
Disabled the arrows and made a filtering 2nd search for the value 0, and
-suprise- got over 54.000.000 hits.
Re-enabled arrows, filtered for 256 and got even more: 55.574.000 hits.
Ehrm, in my eyes, the number of hits should decrease, not increase
By the way, after the progress bar reached 100% and the remaining time was 0:00:00 it still took 3 minutes to finish searching, perhaps here is some connection. But don't rely on this because the pc I used has 512 MB ram and Sacred used 685 MB of it
best regards,
Marc

I've got 2 questions to pinpoint the problem:
Was hyperscan enabled? (Use the scanning routine in the CEHOOK.dll or in the exe)
Was fastscan enabled ? (every scan has 2 seperate implementations, fastscan and normal scan)

Hyperscan was disabled (in fact, could not get it to work on my 3 xp systems, always said something about scan engine not responding, most likely search did not start)
FastScan was enabled.
If there's something I can do to help further, don't hesitate to ask

I supose you didn't use 2 versions of Cheat Engine at the same time right ? (can really screw up scanning)
On the subject of hyperscan not working:
Did you try it on different games or just the same game ?
Does the hyperscan checkbox stay checked longer than 5 seconds or does it uncheck itself ?
When the hyperscan checkbox is enabled and you go to the memory view and then view->dissect windows... does it then list a window called "this is the CE hyperscan window"
In view->enumerate dll's should be a entry called CEHook
Does your system support hyperthreading?

I can't reproduce the bug, and the code looks ok.
What version of CE did you use ?
How much hard disk space do you have free on the drive ce is installed ?

I did the search using 4 bytes, though. Don't know if that would make any difference in your search, but that's what I did.

Hi,
back for good...

Nope, just one instance...

I am using the current 4.3 version, on the harddisk are roundabout 1.5 GB free space.
However, I tried to reproduce this effect on my own pc (the pc with the problem is a different system) and it all worked fine. So I suppose it must have been the insufficient memory, since the game needs 135 MB more ram than the system has physically available. This brings the question to my mind what the hell the authors of Sacred are doing...
About hyperthreading/Hypersearch:
tried it with neverwinter nights and sacred, in both cases I got the message about "search did not start".
To get more infos, I just searched the memory of outlook.exe with hypersearch, THIS works great. Hyperscan box stays enabled, the hyperscan window exists and the CEHook exists, too.
So I got curious and tried the hypersearch on NWN again.
Result is interesting: After starting the search, I get the error message box. Two seconds later I can see the progress bar in the main window begin to increase - see attachment.
So hypersearch works, only the error message does not fit ;)

Ehrm, it's a Pentium IV 1.9 Ghz... if I remember right, it does not.

It really shouldn't be messing up if you don't have much memory because windows still has a swapfile. (unless you've disabled it, but I doubt you'd be able to play the game then)
about hyperscan not working: I understand now. The hyperscan window is a seperate thread in the NWN game, because NWN is running at the same time with a higher than normal priority the hyperscan window hardly gets any time to increase it's own priority to higher and then start the scan. (normally that window runs at almost the lowest priority so it won't interfere with the game)
Version 4.3 (and 4.2) wait for a few seconds to determine if it's working or not (Next version will check it in a different way)
Because you've got a quite slow system (I mean running NWN at the same time) and no hyperthreading this happens. (You can propably prevent this if you minimize NWN completly, if it's possible. Or you can use the pause before scanning option)

Funny. Okay, I'll check it the next weekend when I get my hands on this pc again...

Love to hear that! And good to know how to avoid this.
Ehrm, can we get a spoiler what 4.4 will bring?

I've changed the 4.3 to 4.4
some network version changes/additions (like speedhack)
A stealth option to hide Cheat Engine from other programs
Better support for creating processes that create another process
resized a window, renamed a window
and some other stuff I havn't added yet

Sounds nice, thanks!
May I talk you into supporting the windows hotkeys?
For example supporting the ctrl-v/ctrl-c hotkeys to copy the address when changing a memory address to a pointer? And I'd love to close a msgbox with the escape-key. Would be really cool.
Would it slow down the search speed to display the number of found adresses instead of the 01010-scroller in the search-box?
Perhaps you could even throw in some eye candy like changing the "selec process" window into a ListView with separated columns for PID and Name, allowing to sort the windows/processes alphabetical...
Perhaps I'm not a good coder, but I'm great at having wishes

No now you've done it...you asked for information on the next version. You are so cruel. Now i won't be able to stand waiting for it. LOL.
Um and now i am curious...do those network additions include debugger stuff?
