Is Lazarus still a good IDE?
Is Pascal still a valuable language to learn? It looks very different from C++ or C#, and I assume the coding will be less pleasant because of seemingly redundant syntax, such as "begin... end". For now, I don't even know how to declare local variables.....
I just want to create some basic desktop apps, such as memory reader/writer for games, and using sql with things like datagrid in WPF.
Thanks. _________________

Lazarus is still viable and used, but the community around it is fairly small. You can use other things like Visual Studio Code with a handful of extensions to make it work with Pascal and such, or use any other IDE that supports it.
Plenty of people still use it but its nowhere near as popular as other languages, especially in the game hacking scene. When it comes to game hacking, if you use Delphi/Pascal you are going to have limited resources and limit people to help you if you have questions along the way.
C/C++ is probably the most popular for game hacking.
Vb.NET / C# coming in next.
People rarely code in pure ASM anymore aside from things like naked hooks and such in a C/C++ dll etc. or for 64bit stuff.
Overall up to you what you want to use, just keep in mind that the user base for Delphi/Pascal is limited, even more so in game hacking. _________________

Thanks for the reply. I think I will go with C# and C++ then. _________________
