Hello, I just created this account because I didn't ever had any issue with CE so I didn't post anything before, it's been a long time since I started using CE though.

I'm running windows 10 on a new machine now. 6700k with an Asus Maximus Hero Alpha, also there's plenty of Ram (64GB). Ask for any specific specs if you need.

Today I tried running DBVM and after enabling virtualisation, disabling secure boot, disabling the driver signature enforcement, lowering my cpu count, booting without services nor any app on boot I'm still not able to run it. I keep getting the watchdog timeout exception or it just freezes.

I read somewhere about booting in dbvm so I don't have to offload the cpus, but can't find any info about that.

Also, if I try to manually load on each cpu, most of the times I can load it on the first one, but the moment I click on the second one it just happens BSOD or freeze.

Please help, I don't know what else to do. Thanks in advance

DBVM doesn't currently work well with the creator update of windows 10. If you can, go back one version of windows (The first release and the first update still work)

As for booting up with DBVM, you need to raw-write vmdisk.img to a USB and boot of that. (You can use the linux 'dd' command for that, or in windows a tool like disk image tool or rufus)

Though it depends on your BIOS if it'll be able to find your bootdisk
(I recently started working on a UEFI bootloader for DBVM to make this easier, but still very early)

I doubt it works with RAID (it also doesn't work on my M2 ssd on my new test system)
Could also be that windows was configured as uefi and hasn't setup a legacy bootsector that the current DBVM expects

i believe you can change the windows config to be an efi (just as i did), since on newer systems (os) the installation gonna be from uefi boot i guess ... but anyhow deleting that file during installation or before that should disable uefi settings.

about legacy i think you can change that from bios (asus always support this)

about your m.2 ssd maybe because its gpt? maybe virtualization is different on mbr & gpt drives? im not sure about that, but still you can convert it to mbr to test.

for some purpose i had to remove .uefi and forced the windows to accept that, and i had to convert my gpt drive to mbr, anyway as for developing dbvm this wont be useful (going backward in tech) to use old things so yeah maybe you would find a way for uefi system with gpt drives?

i wanna try booting with dbvm ill pm you db about this, best of luck.

what do you wish to use DBVM for ? Debugging or ultimap? If ultimap, your 6700k can use ultimap2

Actually, for both, but I didn’t know about ultimap2. I’m gonna try that tonight.

The feature I’m more interested in is finding functions called and as I understood you need dbvm for that. Thanks for the info!

ah, you can use ultimap2 for that. You don't need DBVM for that to function
