who use virtual machine?

days ago i was searching for some VM software.

im trying to avoid freeware VM's (microsoft VM too)
i found (paid) one that seems to be good, "VMware"
anyone used it?
anyone know anything about it?

i couldnt find much info's related to VMware, but it can be good if i can boot from VMware. instead of booting from my default windows 7 then running another windows version. (avoiding waste of memory and cpu core/threads to be busy)

I have used virtualbox and vmware, not much difference and gets the job done.

You need a lot of resources to run it though. Virtualbox also had issues running games in VM even though i dedicated a lot of memory to it (something with graphics), not sure how vmware performs.

ehm, i didnt find this info (You need a lot of resources to run it though.) thanks.
like what? static libraries? some specific dlls? or just some vm files that i dont know.
(btw i dont know how VM operates / work or performs as you said.)

and im not going to say a word about virtualbox, because i dont like oracle and their products.

what about memory (both ram and gpu)?
did you ran into performance issues?

No i mean cpu/memory. It could be virtualbox idk but i allocated the full memory and cpu and it was still kinda slow. My main goal was running a game in it, yeah that didn't happen as it would crash,

Could be the drivers or anything else, i haven't a clue.

If you want it for something else than gaming, run xp on it. The performance is great on that.

well, main reason is not for games.

its for running both windows xp, and debian linux.
(ill play games on xp and debian too) but its not the main reason.

the problem is VMware dont support debian 9 (latest version)
it support 8 only.
and i really dont want to spend money on new hardware, thats why i was thinking on VMs.

maybe all what i have to do is download and try.

Perhaps it should be fine with linux. Why not try virtualbox and set aside your hatred for oracle? Very Happy

great to know that it should be fine.

installed VMware Workstation 12 PRO, and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition wikipedia.

here is a 7z file with some screen shots.

one thing that i didnt put into the 7z file, its about how much graphic card memory you wanna use.
i chose 1gb.

anyway, can i back up the whole vm disk (include the installed win xp) so wherever i go (any PC) i can paste that file / folder whatever it is and run win xp VM without needing to reinstall win xp and reinstall some win xp programs?
and if you know how to do it let me know.
