Hi all,
I was wondering if someone with a bit more experience in game hacking could give me a pointer on how to find a memory address.
I am in the process of writing a mod for Guitar Hero III, the game that has the physical guitar controller. I am trying to find the memory address for when the strum bar on the physical controller is strummed. The problem as you can imagine is that it's pretty hard to strum in game, with the game as an active window, and do searches for memory addresses and values at the same time.
I was hoping someone could explain how I might go about finding this address with the little hurdle present?
Thanks!

Since you are asking on CE forum, then presumably, you are able to use CE on the target, as you did not specify whether or not this was for console gaming. I will also make the assumption that you are able to scan values in real-time, and that the guitar is attached to your PC.
That being the assumption, you will want to utilize ultimap to isolate the call that gets executed during each strum.

I might misunderstood, you may first need some more hands.
Would a friend or brother or sister strum the controller while you scan memory improve situation? Then it should be easier to apply ++Methos suggestion.
bye~

Your assumptions were all correct.
However, there is no way I'll be able to use the DBVM. Even after dropping my 8 cores down to 2, after 15+ attempts, BSOD within <30 seconds. Tool seems REALLY useful, if only it wasn't so unstable...
Is there anything else I could possibly use? Reading memory view manually is very tedious.

DB can provide better answers regarding ultimap stability and recommendations. Be sure that you are running the latest version of CE.
If you are working with a 32bit target, you can try this tool: CDA: Code Dynamic Analysis
