In advance, sorry for my poor english and my noobish questions

I'm trying to modify the number of lives I can get in an arcade game (running on a pc-based arcade machine).

I can only have 1 credit, 3 lives peer credit, no extra life. When I used my 3 lives, the game restart and I think the address change each times.

I don't knnow how the game count the lives and 3 lives is not enough for me to search correclty.

Could you please, tell me where to start to find this information ?

Do an exact value search?

Exact value give me about 150 000 000 results 3 try are not enough to find it.
And I don't know what value the game write so if I search for unknown value, it's worse


(I'll add i have done the tutorial. I obviously tried to search exact value before posting here...)

Try "Value Type: Byte".

Steps:

- start the game, pause, first scan for 3

- unpause, shoot, move, do not loose any live, pause, next scan for 3

- unpause, loose 1 live, pause, next scan for 2

- unpause, shoot, move, do not loose any live, pause, next scan for 2

- unpause, loose 1 live, pause, next scan for 1

- unpause, shoot, move, do not loose any live, pause, next scan for 1

(I don't know if it can help : it's a rhythm game, I have a limit of 3 stages and I want to increase it.)

I tried :

Value type : Byte

- Start the game, start the credit, Scan for 3

- Move in menu, next scan for 3, move again, next scan, etc...

- select song, play it, wait for 2nd stage menu

- next scan for 2

- Move in menu, next scan for 2, move again, next scan, etc...

- select song, play it, wait for 3rd stage menu

- next scan for 1

- Move in menu, next scan for 1, move again, next scan, etc...

I have now 180 entries and can't have less

Wait, earlier you wrote about lives, and now about stages.


Anyway. Add all 180 entries to cheat table (click red arrow).

Step 1:
Now select first 20 entries and change value to 3.
If it has effect, remove other addresses. And go to step 2
If not, remove first 20 entries, go to step 1. (No other entries, sorry, you have no luck)

Step 2:
you have 20 addresses.

Step 3:
Now select first 5 entries and change value to 4.
If it has effect, remove other addresses. And go to step 4
If not, remove first 5 entries, go to step 3. (No other entries, sorry, you have no luck)

Step 4:
you have 5 addresses.

Step 5:
Now select first entry and change value to 5.
If it has effect, remove other addresses. And go to step 6
If not, remove first entry, go to step 5. (No other entries, sorry, you have no luck)

Step 6:
you found it.

I said "lives" to simplify the concept but I guess it's the same thing.
