Its an open source OS, right? I dont know too much about Linux, but whats so good about it that would make you be willing to be sacrificing a LOT of windows based games and applications?

If you play a lot of games just stick to Windows. Other than games a lot of the programs you use daily exist for Linux as well.

Only good things I can think of linux

It's fast and light- It takes up a small amount of HDD space, and runs very quick.

Most devices these days run off of a custom source of linux- Since linux is open source, most devices run off of a linux-based operating system. Devices like the ipod touch, palm pixi/pre, and multiple operating systems.

It's a nice workhorse- It's great for office things and schoolwork.

Bad things about linux

You cannot run exes- Yes, almost every single application is an exe. This can include games and applications. If your product does not have a mac/linux version, you can only run it with an emulator.

It's definitely not user-friendly- You will have to have at least a little knowledge of terminals to use linux at its full potential.

Unlike windows, net setup can be a hassle- I've heard that Linux takes ALOT of time to set up an Internet connection. There's really no easy way to do it.

I've just pulled these things from what i know and have heard. If an actual linux user wants to correct me, be my guest.

Linux is very easy to use. About 5 mins for an average Windows user to get a feel for the Interface.

Programs operate a bit differently but not much. Instead of Windows Dialogs, you have Widgets, same as on Mac.

Yes in Linux you can do a shit-ton through command line, but these days you can do the same through a Widget. You can do about the same with a Windows command line. For instance were you aware that Windows has a built-in tool similar to Process Explorer? It's called tasklist, when using Windows or Linux, or possibly any OS what you can do from the GUI is not nearly half what the OS is capable of. There are so many tools and utilities in Windows that aren't accessible from the graphical environment.

You mentioned that there are alot of games and apps that don't run under Linux. While this is true, if you ignore that for a moment, consider you purchase your computer, and $200 or more of the purchase price is OS, and you get nothing but the OS and a few games. Or you purchase your system pay less and get a free Linux distro, you have over 20 games installed from board games, to 3d arcade games, and a full office suite and a paint program, read Gimp, which hands down makes Paint look like a crayon drawing. There is some draw there with those features alone.

The biggest draw of Linux would be that it doesn't come from a faceless corporation that doesn't care about the users, that isn't trying to screw you over by taking kickbacks from company X to preinstall software Z on a new computer. Using Linux you really do learn how to use a computer, not to work around a limitation that was set upon you because someone wanted to dummy down what you machine can do.

it is like this

Everything you can do with linux you can do with Windows and even more.

you can only do part of the things you do with Windows with Linux.

Since Windows does more than linux it is normal to expect Linux to be a little faster and lighter.

balance your priorities. if you dont need the Things you can do in Windows that you can't with Linux, go to linux. If linux is a piece of useless crap (( I think this )) then stick to windows.

inb4: what about macs?
- macs are meh... ok.

Lol, some people just prefer an OS, if people actually use it to look cool then they are doing it wrong, because an OS does not define if you are cool or not.
