I highly recommend you using pointer scanner, if you cant find a pointer through it there's a high chance that it's impossible to point to it.
Code: | Version 2.0
Updated typos
Added High Definition
Added more explanation to non tutorial users
Removed pointless messages
Added over 1 minute of explanation. |

There will be a version 3.0 explaining code shifting and we will go over it by hacking a ''real game'' that has many addresses.
If you have ANY suggestions, please reply as I will add them and include your name into the tutorial.

wow, finally that made sense.
Dude, you officially rock... if it means much from a n00b such as me
Thanks for the tut... hey if I give you FTP access to a server sub-account of mine for a little while, could you upload that tut onto the server? Or just upload it to rapidshare or something? I know its in the swf format... thats fine. I'd just like to make sure I can keep it - and imageshack never really seems to keep stuff around for a while.
Now if I can just figure out how to +rep you... if I can yet...

Excellent tutorial
However something is off.
Once you have established the first pointer there seems to be a diff between CE 5.3 and 5.4
You cant see on the screen what you choose when trying to find what writes/reads/accesses and what your saying doesnt make sense when looking at the menu list.
I can:
what accesses this addres
what writes to this addres
and below that is
recalculate all adresses.
It seems to me like your choosing something below "what writes" and you say its "what reads" but there is no such thing.
However in popup dialog when choosing "what writes" i can choose "find out what reads from the adress pointed at by this pointer"
which differs from what you get in your popup dialog.
Is this the correct one?
Choosing what "writes" gives no hits.
Choosing "what reads from the add of the pointer" yields the first adress which brings me back to square one.
If you could verify what tool you use exactly when finding the pointer that points to the first pointer. (ie level 2 i guess) and from a CE 5.4 POV

when finding pointers use "find what accesses" not "find what reads" (thats why it has been removed in ce 5.5)

I actually had a problem with "Find What Accesses", being that it would send me in a loop. My pointers would come up saying the value of it as the same value as the original address gives on "Find What Writes".
So what would happen is I would get my first pointer, and the closest I got to a second was a different offset.
I don't know, I did a run-over of the tutorial and i'll post up a video of step 8.
The addresses seemed to reset when I used "Find what reads", but as soon as I stopped it they'd fix themselves. Don't know what's up with that so i'll blame Win7 for the time being hehe

Hello everyone,
I use version 5.5 of the CE and version 3.1 of the Tutorial.
All goes well until step 8.
In step 8, I follow the instructions exactly and I find the appropriate address (the wrong address) then I create a pointer.
The pointer is created correctly.
But when I change the value, the two addresses (the pointer and address "false") normally change in value.
I don't have ?????????.
I don't have a line in "Find out what writes to this address".
I have "mov edx,[eax]" in "Find out what accesses this address" but
when I create the pointer, it's wrong. (wrong value).
I appeal to your intelligence and your patience.
Thank you in advance.
I managed to step 8 using the tutorial given above with v5.4 of the CE and v3 of the tutorial.
I think my problem with v 5.5 of the CE and the v 3.1 of the tutorial was that the address was too early to point a new value. In addition, the CE version 5.5 does not give the option "Find out what reads from this address".
I will try later to do step 8 with v 5.5 of the CE and with the tutorial v3.1.
For now, I'll stay to the CE v5.4
Good night.
