I'm in high school at the moment and I've recently been forced to think about career pathways and something that really appealed to me was game's development. Ever since I watched a movie on the making of WoW (lol). I'm studying programming at school but only the very basics. I wanna know where to start with 3d modeling. Or should I start with 2d? What software do you recommend to beginners.
If anyone knows anything about this please tell me

3DS Max and Maya are the two 3D modelling applications I'd suggest you get to grips with if you want to do modelling in games. It's a pretty steep learning curve for anything like this, so check out plenty of tutorials and you should have a good time.
For programming, grab yourself a copy of the free version of Visual Studio and find some tutorials on C#. The XNA framework is something to have a look at too.

Hmm i might look at some books on 3DS max. It is wise to just skip straight to the industry standard. Shouldn't i be using something more user friendly do start with?

When you start building games, start with 2d.
I'd highly recommend Flash or Java, both are easy and great for games.

If it's programming you want to do, then 2d will be much simpler to start off with.
Fun stuff. I'm considering writing a simple introduction to DirectX and how to get the very basics of what could be a 2d tile based engine up, is anyone interested?

Well if you want something easy enough and 2d/3dish i would suggest
get visual basic 6
then download vbgore engine... just search google and you will find it easily
just to start you off if you know nothing about programming ect then when familiar with 1 programming language move on to another

C++ using the DarkGDK can do 2d or 3d games that are pretty good
If you want to make 3d models i recommend (milk shape or blender)
