Jan 18th has passed and Intel kept its promise.
Affordable processor for the masses!
Below is a list of processor from Intel that has the price cut. CPUs not on the list still stay the same.
Quad Cores
-Q9650 @ 3GHz/1333/12MB L2 ori: $ 525 new: $317
-Q9550 @ 2.8GHz/1333/12MB L2 ori: $317 new: $268
-Q9400 @ 2.66GHz/1333/6MB L2 ori: $268 new: $219
-Q8300 @ 2.5GHz/1333/4MB L2 ori: $219 new: $187
-Q8200 @ 2.33GHz/1333/4MB L2 ori: $199 new: $167
**Q6600 @ 2.4GHz/1066/8MB L2----$189**
Dual Cores
-E7400 @2.8GHz/1066/3MB L2 ori: $137 new: $117
Pentium Dual Cores
-E5300 @ 2.6GHz/800/2MB L2 ori: $89 new $77
-E5200 @ 2.5GHz/800/2MB L2 ori: $87 new $67
-E2200 @ 2.4GHZ/800/1MB L2 ori: $77 new $67
Celeron Dual Cores
-E1400 @2GHz/800/.5MB L2 ori: $54 new $44
**Q6600 was put there as a reference to show how much prices had dropped.
Newer Quad Cores with lower TDP with the designated "S"
will debut at
-Q9950S @2.83GHz/1333/12MB L2 $367
-Q9400S @2.66GHz/1333/6MB L2 $318
-Q8200S @2.33GHz/1333/4MB L2 $239
Note: None "S"= 95w
"S" = 65w
Prices are in 1000 quantity units.

Aha and you did just that. I'm glad to see the Q6600 go down in price. Now all I have to do is wait for it to go down in my local computer store

No Core i7 or X58 price drop? I was thinking of upgrading during the summer. Hopefully, Intel will release an underpowered X58 northbridge to use on cheaper LGA 1366 motherboards.
Those low-end Core 2-based processors look like a good way to upgrade that Pentium 4 computer you still have.

I heard the cheaper one will be on socket 1160 with dual channel support instead of triple channel.
And it will be name Core i5 not Core i7
But price drop are usually for them to get rid of the old cpus for their new ones. Anyway it's a win for the consumers.

No!!! Q6600 is going to be discontinued. The Q8200 or Q8300 will be its successor. I wanna see how the 7.5x multiplier on the Q8300 will affect its OC.
