I notice that CE doesn't have an option to search for flags as such. I know some games store the value of the key that's pressed in the same address-I don't know if games that have you pressing several keys at the same time for an effect go by this as well. But should the scan be according to the ascii code of the key (for keyboards) or what? I'm interested in combining that code to produce an effect different than normal. Similar to how some console games have action replay codes that connect pressing a button with an effect like gaining an item, walking through walls, etc. I guess this goes beyond merely cheating to game hacking. Is cheat engine the tool for this? Even though it's been the best tool i've come around for memory searching/cheating I haven't yet figured out how to do this.

Take bypassing DMA for example-it only seems to work until you exit the program and restart-or am i mistaken? The descriptions make it sound like you defeat it Forever and ever....but I don't see how unless there's a way to make the static address code permanent and include it in a trainer
or hack the original executable (which i'm not sure if cheat engine is designed to)

If anyone has advice they can offer me-whether recommened tools, or techniques to narrow the search, or corrections it would be appreciated.
These are the things that i've been trying to figure out for a while. I feel comfortable finding/freezing/editing values but really rather than making the gaming experience more bland, easier/harder, i'd like to breath some new life into some of these old games.

you could try a byte scan for 1 for presses and 0 for released (or if you're insane you could do a binary scan for 1 and 0 but that'll take ages)

and for the addresses that change, you'll need to find the pointer to pointer to pointer, or modify the code of the game using code inection.
for the pointer solution it's recommended that you find the base pointer and not just the first level pointer (usually in the range of 00400000 to 00ffffff)
